The Centre for Instructional Support serves faculty in Applied Science at the University of British Columbia. CIS should be your first stop for help with your teaching, classroom technology and WebCT Vista.

CIS has a mandate to promote and facilitate the innovative and effective use of educational technologies and sound pedagogical principles to improve student learning and teaching effectiveness. We can provide individual faculty consultations, group workshops and classroom support for special events.

We offer a wide range of programs and opportunities for faculty to thoughtfully engage in the improvement of their teaching.

Many questions and challenges confront all of us in the classroom. The Centre has over 8 experience helping Applied Science faculty excel in the classroom. Whether you are new to teaching or a seasoned veteran, come talk to us about what is challenging you in the classroom. We have helped many Applied Science faculty over the years and have experience with developing and improving all kinds of courses. We can try to help you. If we don’t know the answer, we can try to find out for you.

Director

Jim is the director of the Centre for Instructional Support at the Faculty of Applied Science at the University of British Columbia. Current focus includes implementation of Team-Based Learning, PODcasting, Classroom Response Systems,  and the management of our iPeer Online Evaluation system.

Sophie Spiridonoff

Educational Technology Consultant

Sophie has been involved with elearning and WebCT as a user, designer, administrator, trainer, resource support at UBC since 1999. She has extensive experience in faculty support, creating online course materials and implementing interactive content as a supplement to face-to-face instruction.
